I dream of an elaborate garden, full of beautiful flowers, life sustaining vegetables, statues and adornments. I always think that later in life, I will have more time and knowledge for this well kept, modern day Eden.
In reality, we have a decent sized vegetable garden, always with thriving produce and sneaky weeds. I do not hate the weeds, although I grow weary of pulling them and often forget them. They are thieves, stealing space and water but they too just want a place to survive.
They sneak into my flowerbeds also. Some of them are quite pretty and I hate to kill them. Others are thorny and hurt me when I forget my gloves. I don’t feel bad killing that kind.
The dog is also an enemy to the flowers. She digs holes for fun. She digs holes to lay in the coolness of the damp earth beneath. I love her and she does not care for flowers. So I fill the hole an plant a new one.
